Fish farming project in Hadramout achieves record success

A fish farming or pisciculture project in Hadramout valley, run by the people of the province, achieved a success as it is the first of its kind in the province and in Yemen in general.

Mr. Abdullah Saeed al-Ameri, the official responsible of the project, said that the fish farming in Bayout valley in Tarim district was founded by the late Salem Saeed Awadh before five years.

Mr. Al-Ameri added that the farm consists of 12 underwater aquaria, including 5 fish hatcheries, 4 nurseries, 3 fattening, and an aquarium for fish fodder.

The farm currently has about 400,000 small fish and 10,000 large fish ready for marketing, indicating that fish farming and production started in 2018 after brought two Egyptian experts in fish farming field, he said.

He pointed out that the aim of the project is to provide local markets with fish and at all times, as well as contribute to create job opportunities to absorb unemployment, especially among young people.
