The Houthi militias announced on Friday arresting an al-Qaeda leader, an Egyptian, north-west of Taiz province in central Yemen.

Houthi leaders, including the rebel leader Ali al-Qarshi, said the militias arrested Abu Abdullah al-Masri, a senior al-Qaeda leader, in a remote village between Maqbana and Shara'b al-Rawnah districts.

The announcement comes a year after al-Masri and Majid Farhan al-Zarari and their groups settled in the villages under the control of Houthis, after they had left Taiz.

Abu Abdullah al-Masri, led by al-Qaeda in Taiz since the beginning of the war, has known elements of al-Qaeda to execute death sentences, carry out assassinations, robbery of banks and gold shops.

Al-Masri, his two sons, his wife and al-Qaeda members accompanied by Majid Farhan al-Zarari moved to al-Zarari village, southwest of Shara'b al-Rawnah district. They established a training camp in the village of Maqbana.
