Militias top list of violators of media freedoms in February

The Houthi militias topped a list of violators of media freedoms last February and committed 35 violations.

The Media Freedoms Observatory's report in Yemen recorded 43 cases of violations against the media freedoms in Yemen last February.

The report, monitored by Newsyemen, mentioned that the violations against journalists and media outlets were divided between three cases of arrest, one case of threat and the issuance of a circular not to dispose of the property of 25 journalists and media outlets in preparation for their confiscation.

The violations also included the transferring of 10 journalists abducted at Houthis' prisons for nearly four years to the Specialized Criminal Prosecution Office for trial them as well as four other cases.

The Observatory documented 38 abuse cases committed against journalists and five cases against media institutions.

The report noted that parties belonging to the internationally recognized government had committed eight violations.
