The European and Asian countries within the group of  Friends of Yemen (FoY) allocated funds to implement development projects in Yemen during 2018-2019, but they did not find a response from the Government of Hadi, being not ready and failed to name any project to absorb these financial grants, an official at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in Aden said to Newsyemen.

The official, who asked not to be identified, said that donors have allocated funds for projects aimed at supporting the Yemeni economy, creating jobs and improving the lives of citizens.

The official added the ministries are disabled, there are no projects to be submitted to donors, and the government is not ready to partner with them, forcing donors to convert Yemen's share of the financial allocations for projects to other countries.

The donors are waiting for Hadi's government plans to absorb the unemployed, and provide projects to revive the Yemen's economy, create an investment environment in the country, enhance transparency and accountability, improve the performance of the State's public administration, and remove obstacles to foreign grants.

The donors urged Hadi's government to carry out urgent reforms of economic policies, activate the functions of the State and its institutions, and put in place an effective and systematic mechanism to identify appropriate mechanisms for reprogramming stagnant projects.

The official said that they donors also urged Hadi's government to improve government services and security, create jobs, fight corruption, and identify development priorities to restore economic recovery.

The official added that they urged Hadi's Government to implement social safety net programs such as the Social Welfare Fund (SWF), Social Fund for Development (SFD) and the Public Works Project (PWP) which are effective, flexible and responsive to needs of the society.
