US Department of State: We did not talk to the Houthis, but we communicate with them

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker stressed the importance of his country talking to all parties in Yemen, including the Houthis, whom he considered a large part of the problem.
"The Houthis are clearly receiving logistical assistance and missiles from Iran since 2009, so they are a big part of the problem in Yemen, but they need to be part of the solution," Schenker said.
"We haven't talked to the Houthis so far, but we are communicating with them for negotiations and we will continue to do so," the US official said.
