Torrential rains flooded homes of displaced people in camps in the Zanzibar district of Abyan province in southern Yemen.

Local residents told "Newsyemen" that heavy rains fell on the areas of Abyan, and then poured into the floods and flooded dozens of houses built of "straw" and where displaced people live.

They added that the floods leaked into the homes of displaced people in Zanzibar, and the water buried their houses and destroyed the food, furniture and mattresses inside.

In interviews with Newsyemen, the displaced appealed to the Abyan local authority and humanitarian organizations, for immediate intervention and emergency relief and shelter assistance to their families.

Talha al-Ahmadi, acting director of the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps in Zanzibar Directorate in Abyan Governorate, spoke to Newsyemen, saying that the IDPs were exposed to a humanitarian disaster due to the heavy rains.

Al-Ahmadi added that they have descended into the camps for the displaced, limiting the damage and providing some help in lifting children and the elderly from the water that flooded their homes.

He called the management of the local institution of water and sanitation quickly suction rainwater, pointing out that the collection of water in the camps and other leads to the spread of pollution and poses a threat to the health of children.
