Relief of the victims of "Beera floods" in Hodeidah and the opening of "Qutaiba school" in Taiz by the UAE Crescent

Emergency shelter and food assistance provided by the UAE Crescent crews on Sunday, October 6, 2019, to dozens of families affected by the influx of floods that hit large areas south of Hodeidah.

Large areas in the south of Hodeidah from Tihama were vulnerable to direct damage due to the influx of heavy seasonal floods "Beera floods" late last week, which swept dozens of farms and damaged about 14 communities, in addition to the deaths of large numbers of cattle and damaged dozens of primitive hay houses.

UAE Red Crescent received a distress call from the competent authorities and citizens for the destruction of dozens of houses built of bricks and straw due to heavy rains in the villages of Jriba, Wadi Al-Aqam and Al-Qudba, west of Al-Duraimi district.

The aid included tents and food baskets for 50 families who found themselves outdoors and provided food baskets to dozens of other families in the areas indicated south of Hodeidah.

On the other hand, the Office of Education in the Directorate of Al-Waziya, on the west coast of Taiz province, appreciated the great role of the United Arab Emirates and its humanitarian arm in the normalization of life in the Directorate, especially the education sector.

On Sunday, the school of Qutaiba bin Muslim in the district of Waziya, was opened in the presence of the local authority.  The Director of the Education Office said that the restoration, rehabilitation and furnishing of the school has enabled about 1000 students to return to their classrooms.

The return to school campaign, funded by the Crescent, includes the opening of 16 schools on the west coast that have been restored, rehabilitated and furnished.  Furnishing 10 schools opened by the Commission earlier, with the distribution of the integrated school bag in all eligible schools in Bab al-Mandab, Taiz province, and up to the directorate of Durahimi in Hodeidah
