Journalist Al-Salmi is attacked and attempted to kidnap in Taiz city center

Gunmen attacked journalist Wajdi al-Salmi while he was with his mother in a shop in the center of Taiz.

 Journalist Wajdi al-Salmi, director of the Free Media Center, said in a report to the Attorney General, security and judicial authorities, that he was attacked, assaulted, attempted kidnapping, death threat and physical liquidation at 10 am on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the center of Jamal Taiz Street.

Al-Salmi said that Abdul Karim Abdullah Ahmed Al-Sharabi, who was carrying a pistol and wearing civilian clothes, was accompanied by three gunmen who tried to take him by force and kidnapped him to an unknown place from inside a meat shop in Jamal Street.

He explained that the gunmen, suddenly started insulting him and his mother with bad words, in addition to the threat of physical liquidation and everyone working with him at Free Media Center.

Salmi, said that the assailant grabbed him from the shoulder when he was behind his mother, and his companions tried to pull him, but after his mother cried, they withdrew and returned on a bus to try to kidnap him again.

He stated that he communicated with the concerned authorities, and two hours after the incident, Deputy Security Director Colonel Anis al-Shamiri arrived to bring him from the meat shop and bring him and his mother to the house.

Al-Salmi held the person who threatened to kidnap him in full responsibility for any danger to his life and the life of his family, and demanded the police and judicial authorities to do their duty to protect him and his family, arrest the perpetrator and his gang members, investigate them and bring them to justice.
