Cleaners held a protest on Saturday in the city of Taiz, the day after their sit-in was forcibly disbanded by security forces and military police by order of the local authority.

The workers demanded the demonstrators to be held accountable for breaking their sit-in and severely assaulted the protesters, most notably the attack on a woman who aborted her fetus, on Friday evening, in front of the provincial headquarters in Jamal Street in the center of Taiz.

The local and security authorities justified the incident of breaking up the sit-in and assaulting the participants by saying that the strikes of the cleaners were in accordance with the orders of the Houthi group in Al-Houban, east of the city.

During the past few days and weeks, workers of the hygiene fund have carried out several demonstrations and vigils to demand the local authority to pay their salaries that were cut half a year ago, and to install contractors in the Taiz hygiene and improvement fund.
