UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen Liz Grande told Houthi militia leaders that some UN organizations may have to suspend their aid programs because of the corruption and chaos in which relief and aid programs are being managed by the agency under their control, sources at the UN office in Sana'a said.

The Houthi militia established the National Authority for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response in November 2017 in contravention of the Constitution and entrusted with the tasks and powers of administering relief programs and assistance provided by the United Nations and its affiliated organizations and international organizations that provide assistance to the population in the areas controlled by the Houthi militias.  To confiscate the powers of government ministries that were in charge of overseeing aid programs, including the ministries of foreign affairs, planning, international cooperation, social affairs and labor.

Although the sources described the UN official Lisa Grandi as supporting the Houthi militias in many situations, however, it quoted her as describing what the Houthi militia authority is doing as corruption and a kind of purely intelligence and security work. It has nothing to do with supervising relief and aid work, and asking the Houthi militia leaders to re-coordinate and supervise the distribution of relief programs and aid to government ministries as was done in  the past.
