The number of cholera deaths has risen to 100 and more than 50,000 cases have been reported

The city of Taiz witnessed a dire health situation after the spread of cholera and dengue fever, largely in the neighborhoods of the city and the directorates of rural Taiz province.

Hospitals in the city of Taiz and its countryside have recorded cases of death and increasing cases of cholera and dengue patients, which are threatening many citizens, with the local authority ignoring the suffering of the people and failing to play their role in providing services to  the province.

The director of the Taiz Health Office, Dr. Abdul Rahim al-Sami, said that cholera has spread significantly in recent times, and that the directorates of Al-Taizia, Muqabna, Almesrakh and Shamayatain are at the forefront of the directorates most affected by the cholera epidemic.

He added that the dengue fever has also spread significantly in recent times due to the availability of foci in which mosquitoes are born and the garbage that accumulates in some neighborhoods of the city.

Al-Sami said that they have repeatedly called for the establishment of a dengue fever center in the past months and with the support of international organizations, the Ministry of Health and the local authority in the province.

He said that their appeals had not been answered by the responsible authorities in the province and in the legitimate government.
