According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), 36 percent of Yemenis are malnourished, increased about 11 percent from 2014 levels and a 15 percent reduction in calories per person.

The UNDP report showed that the malnutrition index in Yemen in the midst of non-war would have dropped from 25 per cent of the population in 2014 to 20 per cent in 2019 and to less than 12 per cent by 2030.

The number of maternal malnutrition cases in Yemen has accelerated since 2016, growing by 14% from 2016 to 2017, and by 64% in 2018, according to an analysis of Yemen's nutrition cluster data.

Data from aid agencies operating in Yemen show that from 2017 to 2018, the number of pregnant and lactating women in the risk of malnutrition increased in 17 out of 22 governorates, but in some areas the numbers rose particularly.

In Jouf, maternal malnutrition rates were fourteen times higher in 2018 than in 2017. In Hadramout rose 8 times , and Dhamar 6 times then the way it was two years ago.

According to UN organizations and agencies operating in Yemen, for two consecutive years 2017 and 2018, Hodeidah Governorate has been ranked at critical levels of prevalence of acute malnutrition, and malnutrition negatively affects children's development, mental capacity, productivity and future income.

In its areas of control in Hodeidah, the Houthi militia destroyed infrastructure, basic social services, people's homes and livelihoods, bombed food storage facilities and prevented access to them, and surrounded residents from access to fishing grounds.

International reports measuring the impact of conflict - the war sparked by the Houthi militia in Yemen - on human suffering in Yemen confirm that an estimated 3.3 million children in the country are malnourished, 1 million of them severely malnourished.
