Lahj governorate towards the revive of the strategic project of Ras Al-Ara

The local authority in the governorate of Lahj aspires to establish the strategic project of Ras Al-Ara port, to revive investment operations, create jobs and enhance resources, but this ambition, which started the provincial leadership to implement initial practical steps, is contingent on financing its first phase, and the government's intention towards the infrastructure investment file which has been closed for years.

Nazih al-Shaabi, Director General of the General Authority for Investment in Lahj, revealed that the leadership of the local authority in the governorate and the competent authorities has opened a customs outlet in the Ras Al-Ara area and will be ready to work during the coming period, in a move through which the province seeks to establish a strategic port of Lahj, in the area of   Ras Al-Ara on the coast of the Arabian Sea.

Al-Shaabi said that the establishment of the strategic project of Lahj Port in Ras Al-Ara aims to revive the development and economic process in the governorate, as the governorate has multiple investment opportunities and a unique coastline, with a length of 200 kilometers extending from Ras Al-Ara to Bab Al-Mandab.

The Director General of the General Authority for Investment in the governorate of Lahj, called on the government to quickly provide the necessary funding for the implementation of the strategic project of Ras Al Ara, and that the port project should be part of the government's strategy, as this project is of great importance to enhance the investment environment and promote the process of growth and development.

Nazih al-Shaabi added that the province of Lahj has achieved a success story in attracting capital to invest in the province, during the current year and the past three years, in light of the difficult circumstances experienced by the country, where the projects registered in the province during the first ten months of this year up to 8 billion riyals, and provide about 450 jobs.

Al-Shaabi pointed out that the number of projects registered in the province of Lahj during the last year, amounted to 16 projects, with an investment cost of 18 billion riyals, achieving an increase of 77% in the registration of the number of projects, and 265% in investment cost compared to projects registered in 2017, which cost  5 billion riyals.

He pointed out that the number of domestic and foreign labor in investment projects in the province during the year 2018, amounted to about 798 workers, including 6 foreigners working in the industrial sector.
