Consultative meeting of civil society on the preparation of the comprehensive report in Aden

Civil society organizations in Aden, southern Yemen, held a consultative meeting on the Universal Periodic Report (UPR), organized by the Center for Cultural Information (CMC) in partnership with the Wajod Foundation for Human Security and Akon Foundation for Rights and Freedoms.

The meeting dealt with the mechanism of work in the Universal Periodic Report, the importance of being of interest to the active human rights and women's organizations, as well as the involvement of women in the preparation.

It reviewed the most important developments and challenges in the field of human rights in Yemen in the situation of war, in addition to the opportunities that organizations should take advantage of to submit their human rights reports, including the Universal Periodic Report (UPR) in general or specially focused topics such as women and children.

In the meeting, which was attended by a number of heads of civil society and women's rights organizations, and a representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, activist Maha Awad reviewed the report on countries "Yemen as a model." Walid Majid talked about the role of civil society in this report.


The participants came up with a unified vision on working to compel the government to implement the recommendations of the Human Rights Council.
The recommendations for the consultative meeting stressed that the reporting process should take into account guidelines and develop a reporting and follow-up mechanism, and allow all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, to participate actively in the follow-up and enforcement of recommendations.
