A number of members of the Special Security Forces of the Islah Party, the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, were killed and wounded during the confrontation of tribal people with a major military campaign in the Habban district in Shabwa Governorate, southern Yemen.

Tribal sources said that armed groups aboard several military and security crews had advanced towards the areas of Al-Aram and the fringes of Wadi Haboura, in an attempt to harm the tribes of Al-Akumosh.

The sources added that the military campaign was ambushed in Qaran Al-Sawdaa area, where the tribesmen targeted one of the crews with an RPG shell, killing and wounding two members of the Rapid Intervention Forces.

It explained that the soldier Hussein Mahdi Shagra, was killed instantly by the shell that hit the crew that was on board, and the staff of the rapid intervention battalion, Saleh Ahmed Al-Mazhal, was seriously wounded and was subsequently transferred to the hospital in a critical condition.

The sources confirmed the killing and wounding and the capture of a number of elements from both sides as a result of other confrontations that erupted earlier between the Muslim Brotherhood militia and the tribal militants in Shabwa.

It added that the tribesmen managed to surround two armed groups belonging to the Special Security Forces, on Tuesday evening, on the road of Asran as they were heading towards the Al-Mahfad area.

It indicated that the clashes ceased late on Tuesday evening, but that the elements of the campaign are still stationed at the entrance to Wadi Haboura, 2 kilometers from the Arim.

It pointed to tribal mediation consisting of sheikhs and social destinations that interfered in an effort to contain the conflict and avoid civilian casualties.
