The World Food Program said that the conflict and economic collapse in Yemen have left nearly 240,000 people living in famine-like conditions.

A recent assessment of food security in Yemen showed that the tragic levels of food insecurity were reflected in 29 of the 45 districts suffering from

In its latest update, the program indicated that it provides food assistance to more than half of the population in all areas where there has been heavy fighting, to prevent them from slipping to worse levels of hunger.

The program indicated that the most severe levels of food insecurity have declined, but the risk of starvation remains, and humanitarian assistance remains a lifeline for millions, in all areas that witnessed heavy fighting during 2019.

The program stated that in 2019, it provided $ 35 million in cash transfers to families using their biometrics to recover their dues in banks, and in other regions, provided rations and food vouchers that could retrieve food from the program's merchant network.

The World Food Program operation in Yemen is the largest humanitarian response to it in the world, with a plan of 2 billion and 200 million dollars, and it will remain so in 2020.

The World Food Program announced last week that it urgently needs $ 559 million to fund its operations in Yemen over the first six months of 2020, and its funding is not sufficient until February.
