The United Nations Population Fund said it has received $ 25 million from the United Arab Emirates to fund reproductive health services and protect life in Yemen.

The Fund - the only provider of life-saving reproductive health medicines in Yemen - welcomed, in a statement, the generous contribution of the Emirates that came at a critical time, especially reproductive health and protection systems on the verge of collapse.

The UNFPA added that the new funding enables improved access to reproductive health and protection services in the most vulnerable communities, helping to reach more than 2.5 million people within six months.

The fund indicated that the funding would help pregnant women and those with complicated pregnancies to give birth safely in the most difficult to reach areas of Yemen.

The war, which is entering its fifth year, and chronic shortages of supplies and staff have led to the closure of many health facilities in Yemen and the collapse of its health system.

The United Nations Population Fund is calling for $ 100.5 million in 2020 to continue providing protection services in Yemen and reaching the most vulnerable women and girls.
