Griffiths calls for the speedy formation of a new Yemeni government

Martin Griffiths, the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, called for a speedy implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and the formation of the new government in partnership between the legitimacy government and the Southern Transitional Council.


The Southern Transitional Council website quoted Griffith during his meeting today in Riyadh, a member of the Transitional Presidency, Dr. Nasser Al-Khubaji, stressing the importance of accelerating the implementation of the terms of the Riyadh Agreement and forming the new government and then reaching the formation of the negotiating delegation to ensure the initiation of comprehensive political process negotiations.

For his part, Al-Khubaji affirmed the commitment of the Southern Transitional Council to implement the full provisions of the Riyadh Agreement in accordance with its hierarchy and chronology provided for in the terms of the agreement.

He said, "The Southern Transitional Council implemented its withdrawals as well as the delivery of heavy weapons, the release of prisoners held by the transitional authority, and securing the work of the government in Aden."

He added, "While we are still waiting for the government forces to implement mutual withdrawals from Abyan and Shabwa, to continue to agree on the appointment of the governor and director of Aden's security, and to release the prisoner Muhammad Ahmad al-Faidi, who is still in government prisons."
