The living conditions of the residents of Al-Hodeidah city have deteriorated in a way that threatens the coming famine that promises the practices of the Houthi militia controlling the city since its invasion in 2014.

The material situation of the people of the city had witnessed a slight improvement after the commitment of the legitimate government to pay the salaries of employees, as the economy began to gradually recover, but it quickly deteriorated again.

The specter of starvation reappeared again after the Houthis' decision to prevent the circulation of new editions of the national currency and to replace them with so-called electronic riyals and old and damaged banknotes, and the consequent cessation of the payment of employee wages in all government sectors.

In statements to Newsyemen , the elderly Naama from Hodeidah, made it clear that the loss of salary, on which she depends entirely on the expenses of her daily life, was heavier on her debts and exacerbated her suffering. She said: "We only had the salary of my deceased husband, we used to spend from it and live like God's creation, and now we do not know what to do this month, and above the salary cut, the price increased more and the prices went up, even the bread they cut off from us one day and on the second day we found available and it rose its price to 20 riyals.

As for Citizen Maryam Mohammed, who works as a teacher in a public school, she indicated that throughout the past period in which the legitimate government was paying salaries, she was unable to collect any money for this time, but she was still spending her debts that had accumulated since the crisis began and she does not know now how she will live and her family during the days and possibly the coming months without salaries or expenses.

Citizens in the city of Hodeidah appealed to the legitimate government and the United Nations to put a suitable solution to their tragedy and put pressure on the militias to stop their irresponsible measures that will lead to starvation of thousands of the city's residents.
