UN envoy Martin Griffiths reiterated "concern about the attacks on Marib" and the Houthi military escalation, stressing that "Marib must be protected" from the conflict.

The envoy held discussions with the head of the conservative authority and one of the prominent tribal elders in Marib, while seeking to pass proposals submitted to legitimacy and to the Houthis to stop the fighting, while the military escalation operations of the militias on the outskirts of Marib and missile strikes on the city and the governorate continue.

Griffiths said in a blog post on the account of the special envoy for Yemen on Twitter, that he discussed during an online meeting - Wednesday - with the governor of Marib Sultan Al-Arada "military escalation and a ceasefire nationwide."

"I reiterated that Marib must be protected from conflict. The attacks on Marib will only hinder peace efforts and worsen the humanitarian situation," he added.

Griffiths also declared, "I had the honor of meeting the treacherous Sheikh yesterday, and found his assurance that the ceasefire throughout Yemen is a top priority. We have a common concern about the attacks on Marib and we agree that the parties must show more willingness to ease the humanitarian situation."
