The Road Transport Association of Palmin said the road transport sector is dying as a result of a number of obstacles that have plagued the sector for more than two years and will lead to the closure of the rest of the national companies completely this year.

The union's statement came a week after Raha Transport Limited decided to close its activities permanently and lay off all its employees as of May 20, 2020, due to its inability to pay its financial obligations to third parties, according to a memorandum issued by the company to its branch managers.

In a statement obtained by Newsmen, the union said that the actions of dozens of security points scattered in each province and city, led to the destruction of corporate buses, engines and operational equipment, and the cessation of long hours to raise operating costs, expenses and losses.

The union added that one of the reasons that threatens to bankrupt local road transport companies is the imposition of high taxes from all official and unofficial bodies in all provinces, and the failure to prove the price of the dollar to buy spare parts or modernize the bus fleet in companies.

One of the reasons cited by the Association of Road Transport Companies in Oman is the lack of support for diesel, which is sold every day at prices that vary and is higher than its official prices or prices at the world price.

The union noted the reluctance of citizens to travel by large buses and to smaller transport routes, although they are dangerous due to the harassment and stops they face while travelling with national carriers.

The Association of Road Transport Companies in The United States called on all investors in the field of transport to be patient and wise, stressing the need for official authorities to carry out their duties to end the obstacles and crises facing the local road transport sector for years.
