28 thousand fishermen returned to fishing after the Emirati Red Crescent completed the construction and rehabilitation of 24 fish landing centers on the West Coast.

The rehabilitation centers extend from Bab Al-Mandab, Taiz Governorate, to the southwest of the coast, to the Taif area, in the district of Beit Al-Faqih and Al-Durahimi, Al-Hodeidah Governorate.

These projects benefited 28 thousand fishermen working in the fishing profession and supporting more than 220 thousand people from the villages of the coast overlooking the shores of the Red Sea.

The Emirati efforts contributed to the return of fish activity, after a two-year hiatus, after the Houthi militia destroyed most of the landing centers along the western coast.

Not only did the Authority rehabilitate, restore and build these institutions, but rather it provided them with a source of electrical energy either through solar panels or through the provision of electric generators, and also provided nearly 400 fishermen with fishing tools and central refrigerators for keeping fish.

The representative of the Red Crescent in the coast, Eng. Hazem Shandhour, said that the sea is the most important economic and important source of per capita income in the western coast, so the Crescent Authority directed to rehabilitate and build the infrastructure for marine fisheries institutions.

He added, that the rehabilitation and construction of the fish landing center included, "Bab al-Mandab, Dhubab, Al-Jadid, Wajha village, Al-Kadhah, Yalhtal village, Al-Zahari, and Hassi Salem Village" in Taiz Governorate, and the areas of "Al-Khokha, Wadi Al-Malik, Al-Qattaba, Al-Nakhlah, Al-Taif, Al-Faza, Al-Muteena, Al-Khokha, Al-Mandhar and Abu Zuhur" in Al-Hodeidah Governorate.

He explained that the Emirates Red Crescent Authority supplied about 400 fishermen with basic fishing materials, as well as central refrigerators for keeping fish, and the centers were provided with electrical energy sources through alternative energy, solar panels, as well as generators.
