Washington strongly supports resolving the crisis in southern Yemen, and Cairo welcomes the Riyadh meeting

Egypt welcomed the announcement by the Saudi-led coalition of the response of the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council to a request for a comprehensive ceasefire and escalation in Yemen.
Cairo also welcomed, in a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, on Tuesday, the holding of a meeting in Saudi Arabia to move forward in implementing the Riyadh agreement signed between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council.
Egypt expressed its confidence that "the determined efforts of Saudi Arabia in support of Yemen and its people will lead to the creation of the appropriate conditions for the resumption of the political process between the Yemeni parties, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive political solution to the crisis."
Cairo reaffirmed that "the solution in Yemen is based on the relevant references, in particular the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council and its implementation mechanisms and the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216."
The statement stressed "Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at achieving peace, security and stability in Yemen, and ensuring its unity and territorial integrity and relieving the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people."
The US State Department, has confirmed its support strongly Saudi efforts to resolve the crisis in southern Yemen.
Al Arabiya TV quoted the US State Department as saying: "We demand everyone to respect the institutions of the Yemeni state and the unity of the country."
