Sanaa, Newsyemen, Special Report:

The University of Sana'a, which is under the control of the Houthi militias, has announced the resumption of studies at the university from the beginning of next July, after the militia government suspended the study in schools, universities, and institutes to confront the outbreak of the Corona pandemic in mid-March.

Medical sources said: The Houthi militia runs the risk of seeking to lift the measures it had previously taken to counter the outbreak of the pandemic, especially as it uses the method of concealment and secrecy when it comes to number of infected cases and death as a result of the Corona pandemic in the capital, Sanaa, and its areas of control, which may cause a major catastrophe.

The sources add: Although the militias did not announce the real numbers and statistics of the infected cases and deaths due to the Coronavirus , they acknowledged its spread in its areas of control, especially after the spread of news of deaths in the medical and academic circles in the capital Sana'a and militia control areas to a large extent, in addition to the spread of information about the infection and the death of  citizens by social media, which greatly exposed the Houthi militia intentionally concealing facts from public opinion about the extent of the pandemic.

Medical sources confirmed that the Houthi militia, in its endeavor to lift precautionary measures, whether in education or other aspects, such as reopening restaurants, wedding halls, and parks, will have catastrophic consequences for the spread of the epidemic among people, especially in light of the militia’s government’s failure to cope with the outbreak of the pandemic, whether by not conducting examinations or a policy to deal with cases of suspicion, which made most citizens who were infected with the virus prefer to stay in their homes rather than go to hospitals designated by the militias for quarantine, which led to the increase number of infected cases and then deaths, especially among doctors, university professors, members of the judiciary, and the elderly who suffer from chronic diseases.

According to the sources, the Houthi militias, by refusing to take effective precautionary measures to confront the pandemic, such as imposing a state of general closure, curfews in the capital and its areas of control, and allowing the continued work of markets and commercial malls in the month of Ramadan in this way, in addition to dealing with foreign arrivals and allowing their entry through the ports in exchange for money, and not announcing the facts about the infected cases and deaths caused by the virus, they all contributed to the rapid spread of the Corona pandemic, especially in the capital, Sana'a, the governorates of Dhamar, Ibb, Hajjah and Al Mahwit.

The confusion of the militias dealing with the subject of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic appeared in its government’s position regarding elementary and secondary education exams, where the militia-controlled agency Saba published the news of the militia government meeting, including announcement of examinations for secondary education students only, but the news was deleted and republished by confirming the examination of the two certificates of elementary and secondary in mid-August.

The Ministry of Education, which is run by the brother of the militia leader, Yahya Badr al-Deen al-Houthi, has already determined this, which was attributed by educational sources who spoke to Newsyemen to the insistence of the Houthi leader, Yahya al-Houthi, and his staff from the Houthi leaders to conduct examinations for material goals related to spending the budget of examinations approved by the militia government without taking into consideration of the possibility that the conduct of the examination may cause an outbreak of the Corona pandemic among the students of the elementary and secondary certificates, and the catastrophe this may represent in spreading the infection at the level of the families of those students.

Local sources in the capital, Sanaa, explained to Newsyemen that the Houthi militia's efforts to lift some of the measures it had taken, such as: banning food in restaurants and restricting its work on take away only, as well as closing parks and wedding halls and returning them to work ... is due to the militia leaders' keenness to return financial levies  on those sectors as they were, after being affected negatively by the closings.

The sources expected that these measures would cause a health catastrophe in terms of the spread of infections with the Coronavirus, especially in the absence of medical examinations by the Ministry of Health in the militia government, as well as a lack of real control over the extent of commitment to take precautionary measures to confront the pandemic where these measures are being manipulated by officials and supervisors in the Houthi militia government.
