Taiz, Newsyemen, Exclusive:

On Tuesday morning, the military police in Taiz Governorate arrested a journalist, and beat a government official, during a security campaign in the western countryside of the governorate.

A source stated that the journalist, Muhammad Al-Sharhi, was beaten before the police took him to an unknown location while intercepting him in the village of Al-Ashrouh in the Jabal Habashi District.

The source added that the director of external relations at customs, Abu Bakr Al-Sharhi, was also beaten without any justification.

It was said later that the journalist had been released, but that news was difficult to verify.

The two incidents of assault and arrest came after Al-Sharhi journalist talked about the Dhlima transfer point affiliated with the 17th Infantry Brigade to raise the percentage of levies imposed on vehicles smuggling suspicious materials to the Houthi militia to 25,000 riyals for each vehicle, as well as the military police demanding a share of those levies.

The military police, which is dominated by the Islah party, is carrying out a security campaign in quiet rural areas, while leaving the streets of Taiz to the Ghazwan gang, and treachery to fight in it.
