Prisoners in the Central Prison in Shabwa Governorate since Sunday evening have continued a hunger strike to protest the violations being committed against them by the prison director and his guard.

Local sources said that the prisoners are holding an open sit-in inside the central prison in Ataq, on hunger strike for the second consecutive day.

Prisoners complain - according to the sources - of arrests without trial under poor detention conditions.

Charges have also been brought against prison guards for preventing their visits and not delivering letters and sums of money transferred from their relatives.

Prisoners are demanding the change of Saleh al-Dahboul, director of the central prison in Ataq, the change of prison guards, and the improvement of their prison conditions, as only one meal is served throughout the day.

The sources reported fainting cases among the prisoners, while the rest of the prisoners continued their sit-in refusing to comply with security leaders to abandon the strike with promises to discuss their demands, noting that security reinforcements arrived at the prison in anticipation of the escalation of protests.
