A government report monitors 3320 violations committed by the Houthis against residents of the capital, Sanaa, during the year

A government report documented more than 3,000 violations committed by the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, in the capital Sana'a during the period from August 30, 2019 to August 26, 2020.

According to a report by the Monitoring and Documentation Unit of the Human Rights Office in Sana'a, the capital, 3320 violations have been documented inside prisons, which varied between (10) violations, distributed between death under torture, arbitrary abduction, enforced disappearance, political trials, injuries, torture, arrests, physical assault, house arrest, and violations of children and women.  

According to the report, the number of cases of murder under torture reached (11) cases, and the cases of injuries reached (398) various cases.


The kidnappings varied in Sana’a, which reached (720). 

The militias kidnapped (576) men, (122) women and children (22).

The monitoring team monitored (271) cases of enforced disappearance during the reporting period, and the team documented (201) cases of those subjected to house arrest by the Houthi militia, while the monitoring team recorded (350) cases of brutal torture in the militia’s prisons, and (577) cases of assault My body, and the militia continued in the futile political trials of opponents and activists, which reached (157) political trials.  

According to the report, various cases of violations against children have reached (309) violations, while violations by women have also reached (326).

The report, which bore the name of the unknown fate, said that it relied on the monitoring and documentation team of the Human Rights Office in Sana'a, the capital, which works in a very dangerous environment and through monitors based on documented statistics report proving the Houthi militia’s involvement in committing crimes against civilians in the capital Sana'a.

The monitoring team of the office followed the methodology of investigation, investigation, field visits, and personal interviews of victims and their relatives, as well as through phone calls to victims and their relatives.

The capital Sana'a, which includes ten directorates: Old Sana'a - Al-Thawra - Al-Wehda - Shu'b - Bani Al-Harith - Al-Safia, Al-Tahrir, Mawin, and Azal District.

The information and statistics in the report indicate an increase in the number of violations and crimes committed by the Houthi militia in the capital, Sana'a, during the reporting period, on a daily basis, in a brutal manner, especially the crimes committed inside prisons such as enforced disappearance, torture, cruel treatment and death under torture, and the militias use repression, violence and kidnapping of all those who oppose the Houthi group, or practicing a policy of starvation and impoverishment by plundering relief aid, medicines, cutting salaries for state employees, plundering the central bank and state revenues, imposing illegal taxes and royalties on their sectarian dynastic events and canceling dealing in the new Yemeni currency in violation of more than 3 million citizens in the capital, Sana'a.

The report calls for the speedy disclosure of all those forcibly disappeared in prisons, the cessation of violations and crimes against citizens, politicians and opponents, political death decisions and the immediate and unconditional release of the kidnapped in the capital, Sana'a.

The report also called for the speedy liberation of the areas under the control of the Houthi militia, especially the capital, Sana'a, the restoration of state institutions in which the militias mess, and the investigation of crimes and violations in all governorates to bring them to justice.
