Al-Hodeidah, Newsyemen:

On Sunday, the UN envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, called on the government and the Houthi militia to hold an urgent meeting to discuss the disbursement of salaries and solve the fuel shortage crisis in the Iranian arm areas.

Griffiths said, in a statement, that his office is communicating with the parties to find an urgent solution that includes the continued flow of commercial imports, including fuel, to militia-controlled areas through the port of Hodeidah, while ensuring that their revenues are used to pay the salaries of public sector employees, according to the 2014 civil service lists.

Griffiths expressed his deep concern about a significant shortage of fuel in the areas under the control of the Houthi group, for more than two months, warning of the catastrophic humanitarian consequences for civilians due to the fuel shortage.

The statement indicated that Griffiths has repeatedly called the parties to the conflict to meet and discuss a mechanism for disbursing public sector employees' salaries from the revenues of oil derivative ships coming through Hodeidah ports, but they have not yet met.

The areas under the control of the Houthi militia have been experiencing a fuel shortage crisis for nearly two months, while the black market for the sale of oil derivatives, which is run by leaders of the Houthi movement, is booming.

The UN envoy announced during the past months that the Houthi militia had withdrawn the money allocated for the salaries of employees from an account at the Central Bank in Hodeidah, which was obtained from the sale of oil derivatives.
