Al-Bayda, NewsYemen:

On Wednesday evening, local sources reported that a non-aggression agreement had been concluded between the Zoub tribes and the Houthi militia, after days of violent confrontations between the two parties in the village located in the Quraishia district, north of Al-Bayda governorate.

The sources said that tribal mediation brought by the Houthi militia to the Qaifa area, with the aim of containing the escalating confrontations between "Zoub" tribe and the militia gunmen who impose a suffocating siege on the area and continue to bomb it for days.

According to the sources, the mediation, which includes sheikhs from Rada'a and Al-Bayda and led by Sheikh Saleh bin Saleh Al-Wahbi (one of the most prominent sheikhs in the governorate loyal to Al-Houthi), succeeded in persuading the two parties to sign the agreement one day after the failure of several mediations, the last of which was Sheikh Ahmed Hussein Al-Hadiji of the Hadda tribe next door to Qaifa.

The sheikhs and leaders of al-Zoub, along with the supervisor of the militia and mediation as witnesses, signed the document, the most prominent of which stipulates that the Houthis should be allowed to settle in their previous locations (the surrounding heights) and not to be armed in the village in exchange for the tribe’s commitment not to participate in any attack.

According to the sources, the mediation received only 3 persons from the tribe, refusing to hand over the rest of the list of wanted names to the militia accusing them of harassing its groups in the recent confrontations, reversing its previous requirement that they receive all of them before entering into any negotiation.

They indicated that this agreement is re-signed today for the third time as a result of the Houthi militia breaking its pledges whenever it had an opportunity to attack the tribe, which it had not been able to subjugate since its invasion of Al-Bayda in October 2014.

This comes after the failure of the militia, early this week, to storm the village with hundreds of armed men and dozens of crews, military vehicles and tanks under heavy artillery cover after violent confrontations that lasted for many hours.

The Zoub tribe responded to the campaign and inflicted heavy losses on it, as the confrontations resulted in killing, wounding and capturing dozens of Houthis, destroying and burning 3 crews and a BMB vehicle, and forcing the Houthi elements to flee to the valleys and mountains outside the village. From all directions.

It should be noted that the Houthi supervisor in Al-Bayda governorate, called Hamoud Shatan, who was appointed by them as an agent for the governorate, promised to demolish the village's homes on the heads of its residents with tanks in case the mediation failed to conclude the agreement.

The area has been witnessing severe tension since last Thursday, after the militia bombed the homes of Al-Zoub, which led to the death of Ali Saleh Al-Qafili and his daughter, wounding 6 others and destroying and damaging many homes in addition to blowing up other houses.
