Aden, NewsYemen:

The British ambassador to Yemen, Michael Aaron, reported tangible progress in the case of the floating oil tanker "SAFER" anchored off the coast of Hodeidah, with 1.1 million barrels of crude oil on board.

"Al-Sharq al-Awsat" newspaper quoted Aaron as saying that there is an almost complete agreement between the United Nations and the Houthis on what the UN team of experts will do.

The United Nations confirmed that the oil spill may destroy 500 square kilometers of agricultural land used by about 3 million Yemeni farmers, and 8 thousand water wells, and it may also leave harmful levels of air pollutants that affect more than 8 million people.

Aaron added, "There is progress, and an almost complete agreement between the United Nations and the Houthis regarding what the team will do, but we face a problem in financing, as we need between 3 and 4 million dollars, and we are currently talking with some donors, especially Germany, Britain. We paid 3 million dollars, and if we get On the sums before the end of the current month or the end of the month, the team could be in Djibouti ».

The British ambassador indicated that unloading the tanker of oil is possible, but after the visit of the UN expert group. He explained that by saying, “We believe that the tanker can be unloaded, but after the expert team’s report, if we say so before the visit, the Houthis will cancel the visit.” Therefore, we believe the priority is to visit the UN team, and after that we see the results of the visit from experts and discuss the Houthis. ”

Michael Aaron confirmed his country's continued serious concern over the current state of the tanker, as he put it.
