The Houthi group, Iran's arm in Yemen, insists on celebrating what it called the September 21 Revolution Day, which coincides with the anniversary of the celebration of the International Day of Peace.

At a time when citizens are attacked with all kinds of weapons, in Hodeidah, Marib, Al Dhalea, and Taiz with mortar and artillery shells, mine planting, drones and ballistic missiles.

Not to mention the suffering that culminated in the disruption of salaries for the fourth consecutive year, the crises of oil and gas derivatives, and the unprecedented insecurity.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stressed the need for solidarity, noting that the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences is an opportunity to strengthen ties and make peace a priority.

The Secretary-General's optimism that there is an ability to overcome wars and spread peace, by urging the warring parties to lay down their arms and work for harmony, comes in light of deteriorating conditions in large parts of the world as a result of conflicts and floods left by torrential rains and torrents.

The celebration of the International Day of Peace coincides with the celebration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

In the same context, the UN envoy Martin Griffiths, in a video message, touched on the conditions that Yemen has reached, stressing to think about the five years of the war that led to the deaths of thousands and the suffering of millions, wishing all parties to think well and find the full and necessary courage to take advanced steps towards peace as an entitlement essential.

The United Nations General Assembly declared the International Day of Peace in 1981 in order to celebrate and promote the ideals of peace among all nations and peoples.

Griffiths clarified that the pandemic has pushed the suffering of Yemen to the limit, noting at the same time that Yemenis, especially the "activists" in civil society, women and youth, show courage and determination, hoping in his speech that everyone will continue advocating for the country's future so that equal citizenship and the rule of law prevail.

"Let us work together urgently to end this conflict comprehensively for the sake of peace," he concluded.

It should be noted that this day was declared by the International General Assembly for Peace in 1981, as the 21st of September was set as the date for the celebration of the event annually.

Celebrating this day is for a global ceasefire, non-violence through education and public awareness, and for cooperation in achieving a ceasefire all over the world.
