Aden, NewsYemen:

The governor of the capital, Aden, called on the UNICEF and international relief organizations to help the province “organize the displacement process to the capital, Aden, and establish camps that accommodate the large numbers of displaced people”.

In addition to supporting the health and education sectors, especially with regard to children.

Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, the governor of the capital and the Secretary-General of the Transitional Council, met in two separate meetings today, with Philip Domini, the country director of UNICEF, and Abdulrahman Ali, the country director of the International Relief Organization, in the presence of a number of government officials and leaders of the two organizations.

In the meeting with the Relief Organization, the governor said that the failure to organize displacement constituted a great burden on services and caused many problems, including informal housing, calling for an increase in the capital's share of the beneficiaries of the organization’s programs for the next year 2021, noting the effects of difficult living due to the war and the rise in foreign exchange rates in front of the local currency, and its reflection on food prices.

The organization implements a number of humanitarian projects and programs, the latest of which is the cash assistance program financed by the World Food Program, which benefits about 41,000 families in all Aden districts.

The governor and the organization’s delegation discussed the mechanism by which the target group is chosen, which is done through coordination between the organization and the local authorities in the directorates and community committees in residential neighborhoods.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the coordination process between the local authority and the International Relief Organization and link its activities with the Office of Planning and International Cooperation in the capital, Aden.

It is noteworthy that the UN organization supports the establishment of camps for those who are forced to flee from the conditions of war in their governorates to other governorates, as in Hodeidah, Lahj, Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, Ibb and Taiz.

In his meeting with the UNICEF delegation, Lamlas criticized “some parties to the conflict recruiting and exploiting children in war, as evidence of many of them being prisoners of war,” calling on the organization to provide more support to the health and education sectors in Aden during its projects for the next year 2021, and “Domini” affirmed that he is aware of the urgent need and needs that exist in Yemen, and that they are working with offices concerned with serving Yemeni children.

According to the official news of the meeting, the UNICEF country director expressed his thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Governor Lamlas in resolving the problem of closing the port of Aden and resuming work there, as it is the main artery for the organization's activities, through which aid is brought into the country.
