Aden, Newsyemen:

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Yemeni parties to engage, without preconditions, in discussions with the Special Envoy to finalize the agreement to end the fighting and return to the negotiating table to find a political settlement.

In a virtual session of the UN Security Council, Guterres asked the Yemeni parties to continue engaging with his special envoy Martin Griffiths - without preconditions - to finalize the joint declaration.

He said: "We know that a quick solution to the Yemeni conflict can contribute to building confidence throughout the region,"

The Secretary-General of the United Nations warned that, in recent weeks, Yemen has witnessed an additional escalation of the conflict, which is mainly concentrated in the governorates of Al-Jawf, Marib and Al-Hodeidah.

Hodeidah is considered a source of grave concern because the situation there threatens to undermine the 2018 Stockholm Agreement.

After that, he said, the intensity of hostilities subsided, but he stressed that this was not enough, “We need an immediate ceasefire and return to the negotiating table to reach a political settlement to end the war, without that, nothing will suffice.
