Aden, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

An American official confirmed to "Newsyemen" the role of Omani intelligence in smuggling Hassan Irloo, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, who was announced as ambassador to Tehran after his arrival in Sana'a.

The official, who asked not to be named, said that Irloo arrived from Iran in the capital, Muscat, weeks before he was "smuggled" into Yemen with the help of Omani intelligence.

He did not disclose whether the Omani intelligence was aware of the nature of Irloo's mission in Sanaa and that his position would officially be announced from Tehran, while Sanaa remains silent.

However, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament, Jawad Karimi Qudusi, said, in a press interview published on Tuesday, Sending Hassan Irloo to Sanaa "is a show of force, in light of the blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia and the United States from the air, sea and land," he said.

The American expert in national security affairs, Irina Tsukerman, confirmed to "Newsyemen" that Irloo entered Yemen through Oman and that Omani intelligence was involved in his smuggling.

“Without their direct (Omani intelligence) intervention, that wouldn't be possible," Tsukerman added.

The US State Department refused to comment on Newsyemen’s question about the Omani intelligence’s involvement in smuggling the Iranian ambassador, saying only that “the Houthi rebel group carries out sabotage acts on the direct orders of the Iranian regime.”
