Sanaa, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

For the third consecutive day, the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - continues to obstruct the work of the House of Representatives in Sana'a, which is under its control, while it is considered a coup against the results of the Parliament Presidency elections on Saturday, November 7, and a flagrant violation of the Yemeni constitution and laws.

The elections resulted in a renewal of confidence in the leader of the conference, Yahya al-Ra'i, for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, while membership in the Presidency of the Council, as “deputies” for the Speaker of the Council, won by voting by: Abdo Muhammad Bishr, Abdulsalam Hashul, and Akram Atiyah.

According to parliamentary sources who spoke to (NewsYemen), the Houthi militia wanted to impose Mortada Jadban, the son of the former leader in the ranks of the group, Abdulkarim Jadban, for membership in the Parliament Presidency, and armed elements loyal to the group closed the council’s gate under the directives of Houthi leaders, while MP Ahmed Saif Hashid questioned the legitimacy of the elections.

In a related context, political sources in Sana'a revealed to (NewsYemen) the Houthi leader, Mahdi Al-Mashat, the head of the so-called Supreme Political Council, stipulating the resignation of the Parliament Presidency before the elections, and the sources considered that fabricating a crisis and undermining the principles of coexistence and equal citizenship.

Deputy Abdo Bishr described the constitutional and legal measures taken at the parliament session in Sanaa on Saturday, November 7, 2020, to elect a new chairman and members of the council’s presidency, as being carried out in (a free and transparent democratic way, and in accordance with the constitutional procedures and the regulations governing the work of the Council), according to his saying.
