Looking at the vast operations that the Houthis claimed to have carried out against ISIS and Al-Qaeda in the northwestern Al-Bayda governorate, an important question arises, where have the groups of Al-Qaeda and ISIS headed after the Houthis took control of the areas controlled by the two organizations located between the governorates of Al-Bayda and Marib?
Tribal sources in the Weld Rabie district question the Houthi narrative of its extensive military operations that ended with the announcement of controlling the two organizations' camps in the district and eliminating them from terrorist elements, confirming the existence of collusion between the two sides.
But when asked about the disappearance of the two organizations 'elements, she clarifies that with the decline in the areas of extremist organizations' presence north of Al-Bayda, the groups moved to the southern districts and neighboring governorates, namely Abyan, Shabwa, and Marib, to the south and east.
It added that al-Qaeda operatives from the Weld Rabie district - from the Khawlan and al-Hadd borders in the north to Yakla in the south - withdrew in August towards Yakla, and then took mountainous roads towards the southern directorates of Al-Bayda.
A source told "NewsYemen" that the militants of al-Qaeda withdrew from the areas of Qayfah to the areas of al-Sawmaa, which is one of the last strongholds of the organization in al-Bayda, based on an agreement sponsored by Sheikh Saif al-Tamim al-Ahmadi and Sheikh Ahmed Fadl Abu Suraymah to hand over the Directorate of Dhi Kalib and the surrounding areas to the militia. Al-Houthi in return for the withdrawal of Al-Qaeda fighters to the areas of Al-Sawmaa and Marib without being intercepted or any person from Qayfah who was fighting the Houthis was arrested.
The source added that al-Qaeda fighters were divided into several groups, including a group that joined forces affiliated with Abu Omar al-Nahdi present in Marib, another headed towards the Al-Sawmaa district, and another group went towards Abyan in what is believed to be one of its camps in the Al-Mahfad area.
Theater of operations
South Al-Bayda and the governorates of Abyan and Shabwa have become the sides of the triangle of Al-Qaeda and ISIS's operational theater in Yemen, despite the fact that conditions are no longer appropriate for its expansion any further, if the general climate does not herald a continued decline.
Al-Qaeda announced a number of sniping operations and the detonation of IEDs against the Houthis in the silo, and many of them were questioned by specialists in the affairs of these organizations.
In addition to the executions of civilians, such as the liquidation and crucifixion of Doctor Mutahir Al-Yousifi, the bombing of the only medical center in mid-August, and then the execution of a number of Al-Rasas in remote areas located between Shabwa and Al-Bayda.
In the governorate of Abyan, al-Qaeda managed to carry out operations targeting security points and a number of members of the security belt in separate operations, but what attracts attention is what was announced by Brigadier General Muhammad Jawas, commander of the Southern Resistance in Abyan, about three people that the legitimacy demanded their release in the exchange deal.
Brigadier General Jawas stated that these three were arrested in 2017 as members of Al Qaeda, and the CIA had received them as wanted terrorist elements.
As for Shabwa governorate, the American Drones' activity in the governorate’s sky is unmistakable and culminated in several air strikes that targeted leaders and members of the organization in a number of areas of the province after the Shabwani elite contributed to restoring stability to the province after it waged violent battles against terrorist organizations, in addition to raids dens from time to time and the elimination of leaders and elements of Al Qaeda in a number of directorates of the province.
In the same context, the security operation was carried out by military and security forces with the support of the Arab coalition forces in early October 2020 in Al-Mahra Governorate, which was said to have targeted al-Qaeda hideouts in a number of Al-Ghaydah neighborhoods, and this is the first appearance of the organization in this governorate.
With the reverberations of the operation, which lasted more than 24 hours and ended with the death of a number of militants and the arrest of others, the media and reform activists rushed to deny it, claiming that it was unfounded and a pretext for greater Saudi interference in the affairs of the province neighboring the Sultanate of Oman, and then came the visit of the American ambassador to Al-Mahra last week to reaffirm American eyes traced some way to this province.
Especially since Al-Mahra is a gateway for coordination that uses Oman as a border state to gather terrorists between Yemen, Syria and Libya.
