Aden, NewsYemen:

On Monday, the Yemeni government welcomed Washington’s decision to classify the Iranian Houthi militia as a "terrorist" group, stressing that they "deserve" this designation.

The Foreign Ministry said, in a statement, that "the Houthis deserve to be classified as a foreign terrorist organization, not only for their terrorist acts, but also for their permanent efforts to prolong the conflict," according to "AFP."

The ministry confirmed that the pro-Iranian militias are responsible for the worst humanitarian disaster in the world.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said earlier that his country decided to classify the Houthi rebel militia in Yemen as a "terrorist group."

He added, in a statement, that the classification "aims to hold the Houthis accountable for their terrorist acts, including cross-border attacks that threaten the civilian population, infrastructure and commercial shipping."

He indicated that his ministry would notify Congress of its intention to designate the pro-Iranian group a "foreign terrorist organization."

The minister added, "I also intend to include 3 Houthi leaders on the list of international terrorists, namely Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, Abdul-Khaleq Badr Al-Din Al-Houthi and Abdullah Yahya Al-Hakim."
