The prices of building and construction materials recorded an unprecedented rise in the local market during the past weeks, continuing the rise driven by the collapse of the value of the local currency "riyal" against foreign currencies "dollars" during the war years, and the increase in local transportation costs.

The price of a bag of cement was 50 kg 5010 riyals in Aden, and 5,800 riyals in Sanaa, an increase of 400% over its price of 1,300 riyals before the war, and wood prices increased by more than 400% during the war.

The price of a ton of iron in Aden and 3500 Saudi riyals in Sanaa is based on the selling market of Saudi riyals, and the price of one ton of iron equals 693 thousand riyals in Aden and 560 thousand riyals in Sanaa, an increase of 500% over the price of 140 thousand riyals before the war.

In many cases, sources reported that the increase in the prices of gypsum, gypsum, gypsum, bricks, stones and workers in the construction sector was much greater, reaching 500 percent or more.

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Public Works and Roads, the cost of a square meter of construction increased from 30 thousand riyals in 2005 to 125 thousand riyals in 2013, to reach today 500 thousand riyals for a square meter and this constitutes a burden on citizens and investors.

On the other hand, real estate prices in the local market rose to record levels during the years of the war, for lands and buildings, due to the increase in demand for them, as this sector was the first resort for laundering money for war merchants in Yemen.
