Public Houthi incitement against civil society organizations

Abd al-Malik al-Houthi accused local and international civil society organizations of practicing what he described as negative roles and activities that “have a negative impact on the moral, religious and social reality of society”.

Al-Houthi attacked the activities of civil society organizations, which are the main pillar in building a modern civil state, and Al-Houthi considered that these organizations affect societal stability and have a link to promoting adultery, unpreparedness, chaotic mixing and "special forbidden relations between the sexes."

Al-Houthi considered the establishment of civil society organizations aimed at scattering and dividing society, and spawning many components, and said: "They have very big activities.

In the context of his incitement against activists of civil society organizations in Yemen, Al-Houthi claimed that America is behind the establishment of such organizations and associations "to spread corruption and spread AIDS with it; to destroy youth health, and to spread epidemics and diseases." According to his claim.

Al-Houthi's speech was consistent with previous statements by the leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Iran's hypothetical ambassador to Sanaa, Hassan Erlo, who on January 19 2021 attacked civil society organizations in Yemen.

In a media interview, he said that "some international organizations operating in Yemen engage in suspicious activities," adding in the same statement specifying "170 organizations," which he said "work to obliterate civilization and nourish the soft war."

Following Hassan Erlo's incitement statements against women and civil society organizations, Sanaa witnessed hate campaigns against women that began to incite women to drive cars, separate men and women in institutes, restaurants, and university students, and set illegal requirements on birth control issues, and this campaign evolved into preventing and harassing women. Female restaurant workers.

In its Article (58), the Constitution of the Republic of Yemen guarantees to citizens the right to organize themselves politically, professionally and in trade union and the right to form scientific, cultural, and social organizations and national unions to serve the objectives of the constitution, and the state guarantees this right, and takes all necessary means that enable citizens to exercise it, and guarantees all freedoms For political, trade union, cultural, scientific and social institutions and organizations.

According to the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, civil society organizations are considered one of the important means to protect rights and freedoms. They are also a major contribution to setting policies and supporting community activities in all fields, and the state must support and develop them and ensure the independence of their activities.

The outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference stressed the text in the constitution for the full partnership of the civil society sector and its organizations to enhance community participation in comprehensive development efforts to develop its role in popular oversight as a tool for pressure and to achieve the public good in light of the balance and complementarity of its role with the government and private sectors.
