Sana'a, NewsYemen:

Recent negotiations are currently underway to sell the branch of MTN in Yemen to the holding company of the Houthi militia at a low price.

Private sources in Sanaa said that this comes in light of the pressure exerted by the group against the company, and the imposed deductions that the company pays to the militia, in addition to what the Houthis require the company to impose donations on citizens, which has led to a scarcity of returns to the company's treasury in exchange for the exorbitant amounts imposed in favor of the Houthis.  in their alleged activities.

In the purchase negotiations, the Houthis imposed about $150 million as the final value of the MTN branch in Yemen, an amount equivalent to only 15% of the actual value of the branch, which is estimated at about $1 billion.

MTN had recently handed over $26 million to the Houthis for license renewal fees for the year 2020-2021 to operate in all parts of the republic, including areas under the control of legitimacy.

MTN is one of the largest international telecommunications companies and operates in 21 countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East and is headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Activists appealed to the legitimate government and the coalition to prevent the sale of the company's branch to the Houthis, due to the huge income that this would entail in favor of the terrorist militia, as well as tightening control over the communications process on subscribers, then increasing fees and defrauding customers to support the Houthi sectarian activities and support the war fronts.
