On Tuesday, the Director-General of Mocha Directorate, Basem Al-Zuraiqi, announced the efforts of the local authority to support public schools with solar energy systems and air fans to overcome the high heat during the summer.

In a post on his Facebook page, Al-Zuraiqi said that solar energy systems will be available within two weeks, with his sincere appreciation for the conditions experienced by school students, who live in extremely hot weather.

Al-Zuraiqi revealed that the owners of the two electricity companies refused the local authority’s request to supply the schools of Mocha with electricity, stressing that these institutions did not pay any legal fees prescribed for them, as well as their use of local power lines without any permission to do so.

Earlier last week, Al-Zuraiqi raised to OCHA and a number of working organizations the schools' need for solar systems, with students' complaints about high temperatures.

Some organizations officials justified their omission of such an intervention during the current year, due to what they witnessed during the past year, of the exposure of most of the solar systems to theft from inside schools.

In his publication, Al-Zuraiqi regretted the lack of electricity in the Mocha district, pointing out that there were commitments made with one of the contractors to provide electricity with a capacity of 10 megawatts, and that the aforementioned contractor was given one last chance under his pledge.

Regarding the maintenance of the steam station, Al-Zuraiqi stressed the futility of this, not because of the high maintenance costs, but also because of the huge operational cost needed to generate electricity from the station, such as the value of diesel, with the limited range of current consumption, which requires intervention from the government or the supporting countries.
