Blinken: Washington is committed to helping Saudi Arabia defend its territory

On Thursday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that his country is "strongly committed to its long strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, and to help the kingdom defend its people and lands."

This came during a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, during which they discussed the Houthi militia's targeting of Saudi lands.

The US State Department said, in a statement, that the two ministers expressed, in a phone call, the concern over the recent Houthi attack on the Saudi city of Abha, which resulted in the injury of at least eight civilians.

The statement indicated that the two sides also discussed developments in Afghanistan and other regional issues.
