A senior US administration official said that Jake Sullivan, President Joe Biden's national security adviser, had a detailed discussion of the war in Yemen, in a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Sullivan is visiting Saudi Arabia and the UAE this week, accompanied by the US special envoy to Yemen Timothy Lenderking and Biden's envoy to the Middle East Brett McGurk.

Sullivan met in Saudi Arabia with the Crown Prince, as well as Prince Khalid bin Salman, Deputy Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, Minister of National Guard Prince Abdullah bin Bandar, and others.

The US official said that officials in the meeting "had a detailed discussion on the Yemeni conflict, and the two sides supported the efforts of the new United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts with all concerned parties."

"Special Envoy Lenderking will remain in the region to follow up on those detailed discussions," he added.

The US official also explained that Sullivan also thanked the crown prince for his "hospitality by allowing thousands of vulnerable Afghans to make a transit stop in Saudi territory" during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan last month.

In the same context, the White House said in a statement on Tuesday that Sullivan will hold meetings, Wednesday, with Egyptian officials in Cairo on human rights issues, the Libyan elections and Israeli-Palestinian relations.
