Aden, NewsYemen:

A local official and a leader in the forces affiliated with legitimacy in Shabwa Governorate (southern Yemen), announced his defection with a military battalion, and his joining the Houthi militia.

The so-called Muhammad Hashla Ahmed, a battalion commander in the 26th Brigade of the Bayhan axis, appeared in a widely circulated video recording on social media platforms, declaring allegiance to the militia leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi.

The splinter battalion from the "legitimacy" and affiliated with its commander, the Houthis, is one of the military factions affiliated with the Brotherhood, which invaded Shabwa governorate in 2019 and fought the war against the elite forces.

The pro-Brotherhood governor of Shabwa, Muhammad Saleh bin Adiyo, had appointed "Hashla" as general director of the "Ain" district, one of the three districts in the governorate that the Houthis took control of last September without a fight.
