The European Union provides $85 million to support development in Yemen

The European Union announced, on Monday, that it will provide development support to Yemen in the amount of 75 million euros, equivalent to 85.5 million dollars.

In a statement published by its mission to Yemen on Twitter, the union said that it "has allocated an additional 75 million euros for development in Yemen."

It pointed out that the funding will be implemented "through organizations working in the field of enhancing the livelihood resilience of the vulnerable, improving food security and supporting early economic recovery."

The statement quoted Carolina Hedstrom, Head of the Development Cooperation Department at the European Union Mission to Yemen, as saying: "The European Union believes in Yemen's future and in the Yemenis' ability to build economic resilience and build pathways towards sustainable development even during the ongoing conflict."

 "Through the additional funding, the European Union contributes to investing in Yemen's future while supporting Yemenis to address immediate challenges," she added.

According to the statement, three projects that will start in 2022 in areas related to promoting sustainable livelihoods and creating diverse economic opportunities for youth, women and men, and in better dissemination of information in a timely manner on food security, nutrition and livelihoods as part of early warning systems.
