An attempt to sabotage targeting the largest water field in Aden

Private sources revealed to "NewsYemen" about a failed sabotage attempt aimed at disrupting the pumping of water from the Bir Ahmed water field, which is the largest water field in the capital, Aden.
According to the sources, unknown persons tried, on Thursday, to steal one of the electricity transformers for operating water pumps from wells in Bir Ahmed field, north of Aden.
It said that the attempt was thwarted, after a report from the people of the area reached the security authorities in charge of protecting the water field, which quickly combed the area to track down the perpetrators.
According to the sources, the field administration quickly sent an official memorandum to the governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, and informed him of the incident. The governor, in turn, directed the director of security, Major General Mutahar Al-Shuaibi, to intensify the guard around the Bir Ahmed water field.
It said that the director of security, for his part, directed the installations security commander to reinforce guarding the water field and to send a security force to prevent any sabotage attempts on the field or water tanks.
The Bir Ahmed water field in the Buriqa district, located northwest of the capital, Aden, is one of the city’s most important water sources, providing it with about 40% of its residents’ water needs.
The sources warned that the attempt to target the field and disrupt it at this time aims to create a major water crisis for the capital, Aden, at a time when the city is suffering from a deepening crisis in the electricity sector that escalates during the height of the summer.
The sources did not rule out that political parties were behind the attempt to create a water crisis to provoke the situation in the capital, Aden, where some districts suffer from poor access to water due to the aging of the network and its failure to absorb the increasing population density during the past years.
The local authority in Aden is actively seeking to address the water file, as the Minister of State and Governor of the capital, Aden Ahmed Hamed Lamlas, signed last April contracts for 10 development projects for the water and sanitation sector, with support and funding from the UAE.
