Seham Al-Sharq reach Mahfad, and Al-Qaeda flees to the mountains

On Saturday morning, forces from the security belt, backed by military units, deployed in Al-Mahfad district, Abyan governorate, in the south of the country, in order to complete Operation Seham Al-Sharq, which was launched late last August to secure all districts of Abyan governorate from terrorism.
Eyewitnesses told NewsYemen that the security deployment took place without any confrontations, as al-Qaeda members fled before the forces arrived towards the mountains, and local sources expected that the battles would take place in some mountains and towards higher areas towards Jaishan and Hatib.
The Southern Forces spokesman, Lt. Col. Muhammad al-Naqib, said that the southern forces carried out today, Saturday, the fourth phase of Operation Seham al-Sharq and tightened control over the center of the Al-Mahfad district, while taking all security measures for the area, adding that this operation came from the southern forces' full commitment to assume their national responsibilities in Continuing the fight against terrorism and in response to the call of the people in Abyan governorate.
Local residents and local sources confirmed to NewsYemen that units from the Security Belt were deployed in the public market, near the government complex, and at the entrances and exits of the directorate’s center to secure them completely, amid a great popular welcome for the arrival of Operation Seham Al Sharq forces to the directorate.
The sources indicated that al-Qaeda affiliated elements planted explosives near the government complex, but they were dismantled, and the security leaders held their first meeting with the leadership of the local authority at the headquarters of the government complex.
The security forces arriving in Al-Mahfad carried out a wide spread, combing and securing operation, starting from the east of Al-Mahfad to the west of the coastal district of Ahwar.
The leadership of the security forces arriving in Al-Mahfad confirmed that it will continue its tasks to complete the objectives of Operation Seham Al-Sharq to cleanse the remaining valleys and reefs of Al-Mahfad District and its surroundings during the coming days.
