On Sunday, armed clashes erupted between security forces, on the one hand, and gunmen affiliated with Ghazwan Al-Mikhlafi, on the other, in the city of Taiz, which resulted in deaths and injuries, including soldiers and civilians.

A security source told NewsYemen that the clashes erupted between the two sides against the backdrop of Ghazwan Al-Mikhlafi's attempt to kidnap a security official in the Taiz Security Department and a close associate of the governorate's security director, Brigadier Mansour Al-Akhali.

The source explained that a security campaign moved to the neighborhoods of Zaid Al-Mushki and Al-Rawda, after the failure of the "Ghazwan" gunmen's attempt to kidnap a security official, and chased them to Al-Rawda, their main stronghold in the city of Taiz.

He added that the security campaign chased the Ghazwan militants from the lower Tahrir Street to the Al-Rawda area and then to Tabbat Al-Wakeel and the Kalaba area, which are areas on the lines of contact between the forces of the Taiz axis and the Houthi militia.

According to the source, the clashes resulted in the killing of a public security soldier and the injury of others, including 3 civilians.

The clashes coincided with the director of Taiz security, Mansour Al-Akhli, who held a press conference, during which he announced the seizure of two terrorist cells directly linked to the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - and working for it.
