Aden, NewsYemen:

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abdulrahman Al-Asumi, warned of the danger of the floating Safer oil tank remaining off Hodeidah as a blackmail and pressure card in the hands of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament stressed the need to immediately start implementing the rescue plan drawn up by the United Nations, in order to avoid the occurrence of the largest environmental and economic disaster in the Red Sea.

Al-Asoumi said, in an official statement on Sunday: "This dangerous file should not remain a pressure card in the hands of the Houthi militia, given the looming dangers that threaten most of the countries bordering the Red Sea."

He said, "The Iranian-backed Houthi militia persists in its criminal actions by continuing to hold the dilapidated Safer oil tank as an immoral pressure card."

He stressed the importance of concerted Arab, regional and international efforts to create international pressure against the hostile practices of the Houthis, and to adopt effective positions to protect the Red Sea environment, in particular, and the Yemeni environment, which has been exhausted by war and affected its natural and environmental resources.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament called on the international community to save “Safer” and prevent potential environmental disasters that might have dire effects not only on Yemen and the region, but on the whole world.
