Aden, NewsYemen:

The US ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, expressed his concern about the possibility of renewed escalation in the country, hours after the Houthi militia launched an attack on the Al-Dabbah oil port in Hadhramaut Governorate, on Monday.

The US embassy in Yemen quoted Fagin as saying, in a statement, that the Houthi attacks on the ports will only harm the Yemeni people, as they will exacerbate the fuel shortage.

Fagin expressed his regret over the Houthis' unwillingness to reach a compromise that led to the collapse of the UN armistice, which expired on October 2.

The US ambassador called on the Houthis to stop their threats to international maritime trade, sit at the negotiating table, end the war, and play a constructive role in achieving a comprehensive political settlement negotiated by the Yemenis.

He also called on them to release 12 US embassy employees being held in Sana'a unharmed and to stop using them as hostages in the conflict.

Ambassador Stephen Fagin concluded his visit to Aden on Monday, where he met Prime Minister Maeen Abdul Malik, members of the Cabinet and the Governor of the Central Bank in Aden.

Fagin discussed with Abdulmalik the repercussions of the Houthi attacks on the capabilities of the Yemeni people and on the corridors of global trade, security and regional stability.

The two sides reviewed the UN and international position required to deal with the attacks carried out by the Houthi militia on crude oil export ports, and the dangerous escalation they represent that threatens the security of international navigation and the region.

Abdulmalik referred to the destructive role of Iran and its hostile stances towards the Yemeni people and its continued support for the terrorist Houthi militia, and the international pressure required to stop this destructive role.

The US ambassador affirmed that his visit to Aden is a message to highlight his country's support for the Yemeni government, and its appreciation for its efforts during the last period for the success of the armistice, once again his country's strong condemnation of the Houthi militia's violations and attacks and that the international community is unanimous in condemning these practices, which was expressed in the statement of the UN Security Council.
